Food have been used since ancient times to prevent and cure disease. Many substances in foods - from vitamins and minerals, to fiber and phytochemicals had their own role in disease prevention.   • Eat chicken or turkey without the skin.

  • Trim away extra fat from meat before cooking.

  • Lean cuts of meat is the preferable meat for consumption than others.

  • Use brown or wild rice rather than processed, polishes white rice.

  • Don't use white flour when cooking, instead look for whole wheat or whole grain alternatives.

  • Instead of greasy fried snacks, try nuts, seeds or fruits.

  • Use low or no-sugar jams instead of butter or margarine.

  • Eat or cook cereal with skim milk.

  • Buy whole grain breads and cereals.

  • Use low-fat or fat-free cottage cheese, or nonfat yogurt.
